What is Christmas About?

Dearest Siblings in Christ,
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and many of us find ourselves frantically checking lists, making

last minute runs for groceries or forgotten gifts. When we are surrounded by commercial holiday directives like "Slow down," "Remember the reason for the Season," "Don't forget the true meaning of Christmas" it washes over us. We've become inured to this message.
But let's think about it for a moment. What is the reason for the season? What is the true meaning of Christmas? Among our congregants there would be countless answers; there is no definitive answer. Whether you view the bible as
fact, embellished storytelling, or Christian mythology, the themes remain the same: love, community, inclusivity. We hope that you find inspiration in these coming days to open your hearts and experience God's love fully, freely.
"God of all hope and joy,
open our hearts in welcome,
that your son Jesus Christ at his coming
may find in us a dwelling prepared for himself
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God now and forever."
-A New Zealand Prayer Book
We hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
